Izakaya sasaya is a good restaurant. I have eaten hear many times post pandemic, takeout and in restaurant and eaten a majority of their menu. Their sushi is very acceptable for the price point. The fish is not imported or the most incredible in Los Angeles but better than most poke places and I've never had any of their sashimi that was too fishy to eat which can happen at other late night spots. I will say the best part of their menu is the things that are difficult to get in west LA at a restaurant, like ochazuke which is something I've resigned to only eating at home but it's nice you can get it for takeout if you're under the weather. Notable food, good and bad. Tamagokakegohan: extremely reasonable price point. Simple, tasty. Unagidon: this is bad. But I can confidently assess it's the only bad thing on the menu. You should not order this at most places if you aren't paying out the ass. This is something I've learned the hard way. 99% of unagi is bad because eels can be raised in horrible conditions very cheaply. It's unacceptable and not tasty and they should remove it from their menu. Ochazuke: a very tasty home cooked vibe. I like that you can add a piece of salmon. Crab ojiya: also home cooked vibe. Tasty, huge portion comforting. Tamagoyaki + mentaiko: just a fun dish haven't seen on other menus in west LA. I think Izakaya sasaya is a good restaurant because I've ordered most of their menu and been pretty impressed by the quality of everything. If we're being traditional, a menu should only specialize in one or two things they can do extremely well. And if you're someone that is going to sasaya for one thing done exceptionally well, you will be disappointed. But Sasaya can pretty reliably produce a large menu that is 99% tasty. I wouldn't say the fishi is the best in LA or that the udon is out of this world, or that the steak changed my life. Is their yakitori the best on sawtelle ? No. But for a restaurant to be able to reliably produce Japanese food and have some silly random rolls on their menu with cream cheese and tempura bits for your friends who don't like raw fish? I think that's pretty good. And sasaya seems to know what it's doing and that is worth 5 stars. The people that complain about service, as is typical for yelp reviews, are people who demand to be treated like royalty and view themselves as somehow above service staff. If you're a normal person who goes to restaurants to eat food it's fine.

This place is my favorite izakaya with the tastiest and most authentic Japanese food. Every dish is made with care and so much flavor. The service is beyond amazing. They recently got new staff and they were great at explaining the menu and being very attentive. The vibes are immaculate. My favorite is the cold udon and fresh oysters

Best takeout sushi rolls I've had in a while. Love that they've been having deals on Door Dash and so glad that led me to order from Izakaya Sasaya! Spicy tuna roll is delicious -- exactly what I'm looking for in a spicy tuna roll. Food was so good I ordered two nights in a row.

(GrubHub Delivery) My new favorite here is their Angus-Beef-Ribeye Steak Bento (choice- grade Organic Angus beef ribeye steak) It comes with the following: side of spinach with sesame sauce, tamagoyaki, pickles, salad, rice, miso soup. My favorite sauce is Ponzu. Delicious and prompt.
